10 steps to independence

Having work done to your home can be daunting, but we can take care of it from start to finish and remove the worry.

Below is a quick guide to explain the 10 main steps that we will go through to improve, adapt or repair your home.

1

We get an enquiry about our services either:

  • from you
  • or from someone on behalf of you e.g. Social Services or your District Council
2
If we can help, we will arrange an appointment to see you. If Social Services are involved, we will need a written referral from your occupational therapist.
3
Out technical officer and/or case worker will visit you to find out more about your needs and personal circumstances.
4
We will agree a plan of action with you which will detail the work that needs to be done.
5
We will ask reliable contractors to provide quotes for the work and explain the different option and costs.
6
Once we know how much the work will cost we will submit applications for Government grants to help pay for the work, if applicable. We will also explore other options for you, such as charitable funding.
7
When we get the funding (if you are not paying for the work yourself) we will then hire the contractors to do the work.
8
When the work starts, we will monitor progress to make sure the work is being done to a high standard.
9
When the work finishes, we will inspect it to make sure the work is of a high standard.
10
Payment is made either by you or through grant or charitable funding.
