Types of tenancy

There are three different types of tenancy agreements:

Assured tenancy

This tenancy gives you the right to live in a home for as long as you want, as longs as you do not break your tenancy agreement.

Preserved right tenancy

This tenancy is like an assured tenancy but it gives you extra rights. It was given to tenants who transferred from Kennet District Council in 1995 and is not offered to new tenants.

Assured shorthold tenancy

This tenancy gives you the right to live in a home for a fixed time, as long as you do not break your tenancy agreement.

Sticking to your agreement

Joint tenants are jointly and individually responsible under the tenancy agreement. As part of any agreement, residents must be good neighbours as well as pay their rent on time.

If you break your tenancy agreement, we will always try to solve the problem with you. Going to court is always a last resort.

If you are struggling to pay your rent, get in touch straight away. We can help with claiming benefits or cutting debt, so you do not lose your home.
